The Lady Pirates volleyball team played Jeff Davis Sept. 30 in the Pirates Challenge, taking the match in three sets, 25-7, 25-16, and 25-12.
Sarah Guidry played an exceptional match, with a hitting percentage of .420 and 12 kills.
“I was pleased overall with Sarah’s performance for the whole match. She did extremely well in the third set but also did some great things in sets 1 and 2,” said Head Coach Chris Laird. “What I liked the most is she didn’t quit playing.”
The Lady Pirates came on strong, stayed motivated, and came together in the match.
“We’ve been working really hard at practice and we wanted to bring it to the court and show coach we can do it,” Guidry said.
Everyone on the team had a chance to play, with the freshmen holding their own in the second set.
“It was a good opportunity for them to get playtime,” Laird said. “It gives them a chance to work through stuff because you can’t duplicate or replicate game anxiety.”
Lady Pirates played well against Jeff Davis by showing their skills. Lebero Shantel Federick had 9 digs in the match and setter Karson Hinds had 17 assists.
“I feel everyone did well. We have opportunities to just sit back and try to work through finishing opposed to letting points happen. Everybody had an opportunity to get some kills so I’m very pleased overall,” Laird said.
