The students of Pensacola State College (PSC) have been decaffeinated long enough. Coffee Break Cafe, a coffee shop working with The Drowsy Poet Coffee Company, has made its home in the Pensacola campus’s Chadbourne Library.

Plans to open Coffee Break Cafe began October 2014. The coffee shop officially opened its doors to customers January 7, 2015 for the start of the Spring 2015 semester. Coffee Break is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. However, they are considering extending their hours to accommodate for students who get out of class later.

The café is a part of The Drowsy Poet Coffee Company, a Christian coffee shop. The Drowsy Poet Coffee Company was founded in Pensacola Florida in 2006 and has a location open on Brent Lane. Now, all the coffee pleasures of the Drowsy Poet have come to PSC.

Scott Richardson, who co-owns Coffee Break Café with his wife, Michelle Richardson, said his coffee shop is superior to others due to the fact that it is on campus and all of their coffee is locally roasted to ensure the freshest coffee experience.

“It’s important to come by and support the shop so it will be here to stay,” Scott said.

Coffee Break Cafe offers many options you can find at any Drowsy Poet Coffee Company location in addition to baked goods and breakfast items. Besides traditional coffee in a variety of roasts and flavors, the baristas at the café can also prepare espresso, cappuccino and lattes in several sizes. For those that might not enjoy coffee, they have fruit smoothies, chai tea and hot chocolate.

“Drowsy Poet Coffee is the best,” said Natasha Dougherty, a PSC student. “I was so excited to see it on campus. It’s the perfect place to grab a pick-me-up before class. Or even after class.”
