Everyone knew the rain was coming.  Despite this, the setup of the Color Run Extravaganza could not be deterred by rain.

The run, in which participants are showered with colored powder as they complete the course, was the culmination of Welcome Week on the Pensacola campus on Friday, August 23.

As the rain fell just minutes before the Extravaganza was meant to start, Beverly Hornsby of Vendor Custom Baskets and Balloons was relentlessly setting up her specially crafted balloon exhibit to add a festive touch to the event.

As the DJ began playing a smooth mix of Bluegrass/Rock/Rap, students, athletes and staff prepared to run.

Then, it was time.

Crazed, powder wielding Pirates ran each other down. The Pensacola State track resembled a smoky caricature of a military landing pad – athletes, staff and leaders from all walks of life laughing and having a blast.

And suddenly and appropriately, the rain stopped.
