The Corsair to drop anchor on-line

From Staff Reports

Published: Monday, August 25, 2008

Starting this semester The Corsair is dropping its anchor on-line, and primarily will be using its Web site www.eCorsair.com to publish stories.

College Publisher, the hosting service for eCorsair.com, just rolled out an updated version that will allow for continuous updating throughout the day, rather than bi-weekly issue roll-overs.

“It will make things so much easier for the continuous news team,” said Kristin Martin, continuous news editor. “We will be able to post stories as they come in, and on a daily basis. Before the service was updated, it was more difficult to do that.”

“This is really the way journalism is going, breaking stories on-line as much as possible,” said Christina Drain, student publications manager and adviser for The Corsair. “We have been moving in that direction the last couple of years, but now with the new design, it will be much easier.”

Several changes to the Web site will be obvious to readers of eCorsair. The home page now has a more updated appearance. There are tabbed sections that run along the top of the home page for News, Sports, Campus Life, Opinion, Arts & Entertainment and Blogs. A tabbed box for video, slideshows and podcasts is also on the home page.

“I think our campus community is really going to like the new site. It’s really easy to navigate,” Drain said.

The Corsair also is offering a new classifieds Web site that can be accessed at www.PJCMarketplace.com. People in search of anything from books to roommates or jobs to housing can place a free ad on PJC Marketplace. Pictures can be uploaded with the ads which will stay posted for 15 days.

Although The Corsair is becoming mainly an on-line news source, a print version of The Corsair still will be published, but just once a month. It will feature stories written by College Publications and Reporting 1 students.
